Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses the scents of natural oils and extracts to induce a variety of health benefits, which range from physical to psychological. The ingredients used in aromatherapy are often derived from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots, or other miscellaneous plant parts, and are specifically engineered to enhance brain function upon inhalation. These oils and extracts may also be applied to the skin in a diluted form, so that they are absorbed and distributed throughout the body. This latter method of application comes in a variety of different forms, including aromatherapy baths, massage, vapor inhalation, and compresses.
